Sylvan-Lucas students compete in NRCS speech contest

Sylvan-Lucas students compete in NRCS speech contest

On October 16th, the Lincoln County Conservation District hosted a speech contest on the topic of “Healthy Soil, Healthy Life.” Four Sylvan-Lucas Unified students–Kolton Palmer, Emma Cline, Sydney Heller, and Jacob Schultz–participated in the competition, which was judged by three local business professionals. The winner of this contest was Sydney Heller, who advanced to the regional competition hosted by the Ellsworth County Conservation District office on October 24th. At the regional competition, Noah Goss from Ellsworth County took 1st, Sydney Heller took 2nd, and Ethan Robinson from Pratt County took 3rd. The winner of the regional contest will advance to the state contest to be held at the Education and Youth Committee meeting during the KACD Annual Convention in November. Student speeches were required to be between 5 and 8 minutes in length and were scored on content, organization of material, voice, stage presence, power of expression, and general effect.
