Barnard Lions Club begins eyeglass drive

The Barnard Lions Club will be collecting prescription glasses, reading glasses, sunglasses and even broken glasses as a philanthropic project.

The Barnard Lions Club will be collecting prescription glasses, reading glasses, sunglasses and even broken glasses as a philanthropic project.

Glasses are cleaned, polished and redistributed around the world for those who need help with their sight. Even broken glasses can either be salvaged or the metal can be recycled.

Collection sites for the eyewear include Lincoln Grocery, Farmway Credit Union, Citizens State Bank and the Barnard Community Building. Donations will be accepted until January 1, 2024.

The Barnard Lions Club is also collecting and recycling sheet plastic. Examples of sheet plastic are grocery bags, pallet wraps, ice bags, bubble wrap, bread bags, storage bags, and plastic mailer bags. We do ask that all plastic be clean and dry. There will be boxes for collection in Lincoln Grocery, Nancy’s Fancy and the Barnard Community Building. The goal is to collect and recycle enough plastic to place a park bench.

Collection of sheet plastic at Lincoln Grocery will be available until January 1. The Barnard collection sites will be open until August, 2024.
