It is the season…to be hunting. My family comes from a long lineage of hunting to stock our freezers. We only kill what we can eat, as we are grateful for God’s blessings in this world. A few years ago myself and my husband traveled out to Colby, KS, to go hunting for elk. It was a beautiful time with my husband and a few of our close friends. He was able to bring back a good sized cow to fill our freezer. Elk is surely a different tasting game and I was happy with the cuts we received from our local butcher.
Fast forward a year, my husband took our son on his first hunt. He headed towards Coffeyville, KS area to hunt on a piece of property that is owned by a fellow brother in arms. It was a great bonding moment for both of them and my son brought home a large doe to fill our freezer once more. My son learned a lot while out there with the men, but he gained respect for the land. He told me stories of a redtail hawk coming within inches of the blind and hearing the wind off of his wings. The beauty of the land as the sun rises over the cliff sides.
This year we will not be able to go out and hunt for our turkey since there will not be a turkey season due to low numbers in the population. Part of me is hurting because that is the time myself and my daughter go bow hunting. However, I am happy that Kansas protects the populations of the animals here. By doing this, our future generations will have something to carry on our traditions.
Kansas has beautiful landscapes scattered throughout the state, and joined by some very interesting animals. We are thankful for the chances we have to enjoy the land and be able to hunt some of the best hunting areas in America. I am also thankful for the friendships the Lord has given me and my family.
Our Team is extremely thankful and blessed for our readers, and we hope you get out there and enjoy Kansas like we do. Enjoy and God Bless.
