Lincoln County family named “Farm Family of the Year”

John and Ginny Buttenhoff of Lincoln County are one of Kansas Farm Bureau’s (KFB) 2023 Farm Family of the Year honorees.

Each year a select number of families receive this recognition for their service and leadership in agriculture, Farm Bureau and their communities. This year 10 families received this recognition.

John and Ginny Buttenhoff farm and ranch in Lincoln County with John’s parents. Primarily they raise no-till wheat, milo and soybeans. The Buttenhoffs run a Red Angus commercial cow herd as well. John has been farming since he could drive a tractor. After graduating high school, he became more involved in the operation by renting his own land for crops and cattle. Today the couple works together on the farm where they raise their four children, Tenley, Hailey, August and Emma.

The Buttenhoffs have been active in Farm Bureau for more than 10 years. John serves on the Lincoln County Farm Bureau board and manages a program that provides beef to the local school district. They have both been representatives on the Young Farmers and Ranchers committee, attended Kansas Farm Bureau annual meetings and participated in the Young Farmers and Ranchers national conference. The couple helps facilitate the county Ag Day on the Farm which Ginny started during her role as county coordinator. They are proud to continue to bring hands-on agriculture experiences to local third and fourth grade students.

Ginny is the head cook for the local school district and teaches Sunday School to students grades 3 through 6. John serves as president of the USD #298 board of education, chairperson of the Lincoln County conservation district and is a member of the Education Foundation board.

As KFB members they appreciate the action alerts, town halls and member meetings. The Buttenhoffs are confident the agriculture industry will continue to face the challenges of weather and regulations.
