Slightly Off Key

Resolutions are not for everyone

Another year has come and gone. What have you accomplished?

If you’re anything like me, even just a tiny bit, I’m going to suggest the fact you’re seeing a new year is quite an accomplishment.

Resolutions are for the young, or those who smoke or drink too much and those who lie, cheat or steal. If you fall into one of those categories I might offer a resolution to clean up your act.

Maybe you want to lose weight. Well, you can try those miracle gummies we see advertised all over the place, or maybe... just maybe... you could move more and eat less. Just a thought.

Maybe you want to work on being healthy. In that case I might suggest opting for carrot sticks instead of carrot cake, saving the salt for company, opting for water over coffee or soft drinks, and, at the risk of repeating myself, moving more and eating less. You might even consider doing things your doctor asks you to do! What a novel concept that is!

Perhaps you have the Gift of Gab. You talk too much, are fully aware that you talk too much and would really like to stop that nasty habit. In that case, I strongly suggest you glue your lips together and wire your jaws shut.

And, just maybe, you have a dream in your mind of something you really want to accomplish but self-doubt and fear of failure prevent you from even trying.

In that event, here is a story for you I found on Bing. “Once upon a time, there was a man who loved to climb mountains. He had climbed many mountains in his life, but there was one mountain that he had always wanted to climb: Mount Everest. He had tried to climb it many times before, but he had never been successful.

One day, he decided that he would try to climb Mount Everest one last time.

He trained hard for months, and finally, the day came when he set out to climb the mountain. It was a long and difficult climb, but he persevered, and finally, he reached the summit.

As he stood at the top of the mountain, he looked out at the world below him. He felt a sense of accomplishment that he had never felt before. He realized that he had achieved his dream, and that anything was possible if he set his mind to it.

So, as you start the new year, remember that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. Don’t be afraid to dream big and work hard to achieve your goals.

Unless, of course, you are as old as I am and then take a doctor with you and don’t be afraid to nap.
