In order to be eligible for this honor, a student must be respectful of the flag of the United States, the National Anthem and the Constitution. They must show respect for the students, citizens and community members of the school district. They must also demonstrate tolerance and respect for the beliefs and convictions of others.

They must demonstrate a willingness to assume citizenship responsibilities in school and in their community; work to build school pride through active participation in projects which publicize, honor or beautify the school; display good sportsmanship whether as a participant or spectator and remain friendly toward new students, thereby encouraging them to become involved in school activities.

These requirements are based on the criteria created by the Kansas State High School Athletic Association (KSHAA) Citizenship Award.
