For the last eight plus years the national corporate media has been on a mission to destroy Donald Trump and the MAGA movement in any way possible. We have seen the lapdog press attack anything to do with Traditional American Values and denigrate anyone who doesn’t follow the progressive left belief system.
Since the 1990’s and earlier there was a shift away in journalism from objective reporting, doing what reporters are supposed to do, meaning the who - what - where - when and why of any given subject.
The new method is more of an advocacy journalism mode that up front finds a conclusion of the story, and the job of the writer is to bolster that preconceived determination. We used to call that propaganda.
What was witnessed Saturday, April 13th, was in many ways a culmination of years of portraying someone as a monster figure and waiting for an unhinged individual to get out and eliminate the manufactured threat.
The media isn’t the only institution with a lack of professional ethics, however, our industry bears a responsibility to report in a factual manner at least as much natural human biases allow. Many of the worst offenders are owned by large corporations or by billionaires that subsidize those media organizations from other revenue sources.
The advent of new media players, operated by smaller companies and individuals, is part of the solution for a more common sense, responsible news landscape. The free market dictates whether those operations can survive or fail.
We encourage everyone not to take any source’s word completely on any subject and do their own research to understand the facts of any controversial issue.
This election season is certainly a major turning point for the future of our republic.
Let’s hope a well-informed and level-headed public is in a position to make the decisions that will have lasting effects on all of us for decades to come.
