The next bingo is happening at the Vesper Community Center this Saturday April 1st. Earlier this month 153 people visited from multiple counties to play bingo and over $700 in prizes were given out. Don Brewer from Sylvan Grove and Marlys Yarnell from Lucas won the jackpot prize. The community center is located as 1247 N 120th Rd a mile south of Hwy 18 in Vesper.
Prior to and during bingo, community center volunteers will be selling grilled burgers and cheeseburgers, cheese cake, chocolate and coconut cream meringue pies, cinnamon rolls, ice cream sundaes, floats, popcorn and other snacks to fund raise for the community center and its programs. Take out is also available and no phone call is necessary. The pies and cinnamon rolls are sponsored by Kansas MidWest Homes & Movers and the popcorn is sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred seed from Sylvan Grove.
Doors and food concessions open at 5:30pm . Prior to bingo, there will be free raffles for giving away $5 concession food gift certificates. Bingo starts at 7:00 pm and intermission begins after the first 10 games generally around 8:30 pm, with another 10 games that follow. All 20 games can be played for as little as $6. Players can also arrive late and play just the remaining games. Cash prizes are given out for each of the 20 games. More info about bingo is at https://www.vespercc.org/bingo/ Bingo helps fund improvements to the center. An interior painting and trim project was completed earlier this month and other interior improvements are being planned. Along with the new floor, the facility now offers a new brighter, more modern and professional setting for public gatherings. With these improvements, rental use of the facility has been increasing. In addition to the post office restoration project, an outdoor art work mural project is now being planned for the exterior of the building which will be painted this summer. The public is being invited to submit ideas for the objects to be featured in the mural. Ideas submitted so far include windmills and wind turbines, wheat, sunflowers, post rock, limestone bridges, combine/ threshers, livestock, barns, pastures, Native Americans, the American and state flag/emblems and other objects. The much improved circa 5000 square foot community center is available for rentals for weddings, parties, auctions, memorials and meetings and can comfortably accommodate as many as 300 people. A updated calendar has been added to the website that shows upcoming events, rental reservations and facility availability. More information about these events and rentals is available at the vespercc website at https:// vespercc.org/facility-rentals/ The community center is supported by private donations and grants from Dane G Hansen, Post Rock Community Foundation, Lincoln County WEB and local businesses so be sure to thank the Bank of Tescott, Strategic Farm Solutions, S&S Auto service and towing, Bennington State Bank, World Pest Control, Kansas Midwest Homes and Movers, Seirer’s Clothing, Pioneer Hi-Bred Seed of Sylvan Grove, Citizens State Bank & Trust, and Meyer Tire and Lube, when you patronize these businesses.
