Readers might remember Jaycee Vath, a 2021 graduate of Lincoln High School. Vath, a track star during her high school career, set both school and state records. She is continuing her winning streak at Fort Hays State University where she is currently a sophomore.
The Bryan Clay Invitational held April 14 in Azusa, CA resulted in three school records and eight national qualifying marks for the FHSU track and field teams.
The day opened with Vath setting the school record in the 5,000m run, completing the race in 17:20:22, more than 11 seconds faster than the previous school-best set in 2017. She placed 17th in the Open B section of the race comprised of 101 runners.
The record was broken again nine hours later when Regan Hodsden finished in 16:47:77, finishing ninth out of 31 runners in the third heat of the Open A section. Her time in this event brought her to 11th this season in Division II.
A record was also broken in the 800m run.
