In the spring of 2022, the USD 299 forensics speech team took second place at the state competition, and two of its members brought home state championships. These students were recognized for their achievements at a recent basketball game.
Ray Decker and Dayton Couse were immortalized on the school’s Wall of Fame, a plaque of individual students that earn a state championship. Decker and Couse received a first-place win at the state tournament. Both young men are 2022 graduates of SLUHS and are currently attending Fort Hays State University.
In the same presentation, the 2021-2022 speech team received their second-place banner which will hang on the wall at the school. Team members included Decker and Couse, Jacob Schultz, Kaylee Johnson, Goldie Dohe, Sydney Heller, Valden Dohl, Harlan Pancost, Hannah Pahls, Anna Feldkamp, Addie Wallace and Keeli Knobbe.
