Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 2023 KSU/Post Rock Extension District Wheat Plot Tours, Wednesday, May 31, to view over 25 varieties in each of the wheat plots with two stops according to Sandra L. Wick, Post Rock District Crop Production Agent. Unfortunately, like all producers, the wheat crop has had many challenging things this year, so it just is looking pretty rough and very thin and short.
Our wheat tour day will only have 2 stops due to the poor wheat stands with limited growth. As you know many wheat fields have been released through insurance. Our first stop will be starting at 10:00 a.m. in Smith County with Art Befort as the cooperator. The plot is located on Highway 281, 1 mile S of Lebanon on the East side of highway. We will then have a FREE lunch, following the tour, at the Lebanon Community Center sponsored by Midway Coop, Inc.
The day will end with our 2nd stop at the Jewell County starting at 1:30 p.m. with Josh Bohnert as our cooperator. The plot is located on Highway 14 north of Jewell, then west on K Road for 2 1/2 miles, with the plot on the south side of the road.
The day is provided by local Agri-business sponsors. The tours provide the opportunity to visit one-on-one with KSU agronomists. Producers are invited to make their own observations at any of the stops that fit their schedule. Variety signs will be up in the plots soon, so check them out prior to the plot tour. Wick encourages producers to check out the plots nearest their operation then bring a neighbor for the presentations along with lunch or dinner at any of the plots. For further information go to the Post Rock Extension District Website, www.postrock.ksu.edu, under “events” or contact Sandra at any of the Post Rock Extension District Offices in Beloit, Lincoln, Mankato, Osborne or Smith Center.
