There are lots of fun activities planned at the Lincoln Carnegie Library this summer. Children, teens and adults can sign-up for the summer reading program which runs from May 19th through July 29th. The reading program includes some fun prizes for all ages. When you sign up you will get a full schedule that includes the dates and times of Summer Library programs and activities.
The theme for this year’s program is “All Together Now” and the library is decorated in a groovy 60s vibe. Contests will include a “Scooby Doo Where Are You” challenge. Clues to help you find Scooby and the Gang can be picked up at the library or found on the Library’s facebook page. The Library’s facebook page will also be challenging you with some fun 60s trivia questions. Everyone who responds will be entered in a monthly drawing for a chance to win a prize.
Two open houses, sponsored by the Friends of the Library, are planned. A coffee with cinnamon rolls on Wednesday, June 7th from 9 to 10 a.m. and a Chamber after hours featuring a wine and cheese sampling on Wednesday, June 21st from 5 to 6:30. There have been lots of changes at the library the last few years. Library staff and board members are hoping everyone will come in to see and learn about everything new.
Children’s programs will begin with a groovy kick-off party. Other programs include making chia pets, an insect olympics, a build a fort night and a visit from Rolling Hills Zoo. Community focused storytimes will feature visits to the community garden, the courthouse, the fire station, the airport and the sheriff ’s office.
In July there will be classes for children age eight and older. In keeping with the 60s theme programs will include flower bird feeders, lava lamps, macramé pot hangers and tie dye headbands.
Retro TV Wednesday will be held in June and July from 2:30 to 3:30. Both children and adults will enjoy watching television shows from the 60s including Gilligan’s Island, The Brady Bunch, The Flinstones and more.
There will be weekly guessing jars and crafts. The library maker space is always open with free craft supplies, games, puzzles and STEAM activities for all ages. Library staff are planning for a busy summer. Last year there were 145 kids, 28 teens and 21 adults who signed up for the reading program. They are hoping to increase those numbers in 2023.
