The Denmark Dames met at the home of Janet Humburg on May 2, 2023. Members present were Georgie DeArvil, Shirley Nelson-Hough, Elaine Parrish, Connie Crawford and Janet Humburg.
Opening: Janet made a presentation about fun facts and events that happened in May, such as The King James version of the Bible was first published in 1611. The Dames shared what they learned about May. Connie shared that Alan Shepard was the first American in space on May 5, 1961. Georgie was born on this day in 1948. Shirley remembered giving May Baskets and making paper flowers to decorate graves. Elaine noted that on May 1, 1860, the Transcontinental Railroad was completed.
The April 4 minutes were read and were approved as read.
Treasurer’s Report: Donations were made to the Lincoln Art Center and the Lincoln County 4H Boosters. The current balance is $830.34.
Correspondence: Thank yous were received from Sylvan Lucas After Prom party and Lincoln Art Center. Elaine made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Shirley seconded the motion. The motion was approved. New Business: Georgie said that in the past things were donated to the Thrift store for the Children’s Christmas Event. Children are able to pick out gifts for family. Also we need to think of a trip in the fall. Under Old Business Georgie will be going to the library. At the closing, Georgie presented something written by Andy Rooney about how he appreciates women over 40.
The meeting was adjourned and the ladies enjoyed coffee, lemon pound cake and conversation. The Dames next meeting is June 6 at the home of Connie Crawford.
