The community was excited when Hazel Metz, a freshman at Lincoln Junior- Senior High School, qualified for State Track. As a freshman, she follows in the footsteps of previous Leopard female track stars like Jenna Farris, Jaycee Vath and others who qualified for state-level contests as freshmen.

The community gathered on Lincoln Avenue in the business district for a quick send-off, wishing Hazel good luck and good results at the state track meet held May 26-27 at Wichita State University.

As a freshman, she competed against girls with up to four years of track seasons under their belts. They were not only the best at their chosen sport at their respective schools, but they were also more experienced and because of that experience, more skilled. But that didn’t stop Hazel Metz.

Metz’s preliminary run put her into the finals, itself a big win. Her performance in the finals resulted in a 7th place win and medal.
