School Board Appreciation Month

Sitting on a board of directors is not a simple task, and contrary to popular belief, it involves commitment, genuine interest and much more time than a monthly meeting. The board is responsible for major decisions, financial stability, personnel, government regulations and requirements that might affect them, preserve the institution and provide longevity. These are just a few of their responsibilities.

While in most cases this is a labor of love, board members seldom receive accolades for their hard work, but instead hear only criticisms about difficult decisions, some of which are unpopular.

January is School Board Appreciation month, and several teachers at Sylvan- Lucas Unified Junior/ Senior High School hosted a taco dinner for USD299 school board members before

their meeting January 9, 2023.

“The board is very appreciative of the staff and their willingness to do this,” said long-time board member David Dohe. “The board also appreciates the engagement of the staff with the communities within USD 299.”

USD 299 board members include president Marc Lovin, vice president Rhonda Haberer, Danelle Palmer, Kendra Boor, Virgil Lawson, Kylo Heller and David Dohe.

USD 298 board members include president John Buttenhoff, vice-president Jeanna Eckhart, David Bell, Jason Coover, Bree McReynolds-Baetz and Jessica Kobbeman.
