The Hometown Helpers Community Club met Saturday, May 26, 2023, in downtown Sylvan Grove.
Members met at City Hall to plant flowers in the downtown Main Street planters.
After the public service project meeting, the Hometown Helpers conducted a short business meeting. It was called to order by Vice President Kale Sorensen. Hometown Helpers recited the Pledge of Allegiance and the club pledge. Roll call was answered by My Favorite Ice Cream Flavor. Nineteen members, five adults and two guests were present. Mercy Boyd led the club in singing “Who is the King of the Jungle?” The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as corrected.
In old business, Anna Feldkamp moved to pay $30 to rent the Bethlehem Lutheran Parish Hall for the Rocket Building Project Meeting. The motion was seconded and carried. The club will build rockets on Friday, June 9, beginning at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday, June 11, club members will travel to Hutchinson, KS, for a KOSMO (Kansas Organization for Space Modeling) launch at the state fairgrounds. KOSMO is a division of NAR (National Association of Rocketry).
The Hometown Helpers saw the club’s logo created in orange and blue colors by Alisa Agler. The banner and t-shirt committees will use the logos and will report at the June meeting.
The club was reminded that the Hometown Helpers will hold a Cake Walk/Bake Walk at the Lincoln County Fair on Friday, July 21.
Lorelei Dohl reported that stage 1 of the paperwork for the tax-exempt status for 501c3 has been completed.
Several club members volunteered to serve the Sylvan-Lucas Unified alumni banquet on Saturday, May 27. They are to report at 5:30 for instructions.
Club members discussed the Hometown Helpers Showcase. A date was chosen of Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. Committees were appointed for Promotions, Decorations, Meal, Program, Silent Auction and Video & Technology.
Seeing no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Afterward, the Boyd family treated club members to homemade chocolate chip cookies.
