The USD #298 Track Fundraising Committee got a huge boost after the Lincoln City Council unanimously agreed to contribute a little over $80,000 to the track fundraising effort at last Monday’s monthly council meeting.
The major contribution leaves the fundraising committee with nearly 75 percent of the $500,000 needed by the end of 2023 to get Iowa based Fisher Tracks on the schedule to completely rebuild the track at Mettner Field following the completion of the 2024 track season.
The $80,231.40 contribution from the City of Lincoln leaves the USD #298 Track Fundraising Committee with $367,425.52 collected or pledged as of June 14th.
The project has relied on dozens of different donors to date, including two individual pledges of $50,000, a pledge of $40,000 from the Lincoln County Commission, an anonymous of donation of $10,000 which jump started the project in its early stages, $41,000 in grants from two different charitable foundations, more than $25,000 from two separate Track-A-Thon events, and major private donations from The Bank of Tescott ($15,000), Citizens State Bank ($5,000), and the Lincoln Lions Club ($5,000) and donations of $100 or less from dozens of Lincoln track supporters.
The committee needs to raise $132,574.48 in the next six months to see the track renovation become a reality. For more information follow the USD #298 Track Fundraising Committee page on Facebook. Donate online at https://givebutter.com/tz4vyw.
