By Janet Humburg Secretary On January 3, 2023, the members of the Denmark Dames Service Club met at the home of Elsie Driscoll. The Ladies spent some time chatting about how we spent our Christmases and celebrated the New Year. We all took time to admire how Elsie has decorated her home.
President Georgie DeArvil called the meeting to order. Elsie talked about a little book she had entitled “At the Kitchen Door” which had a story called “The Cookie Jar”. A well filled cookie jar has as much value as the most expensive vase.
Members Present: Elsie Driscoll, Georgie DeArvill, Connie Crawford, Elaine Parrish and Janet Humburg.
Roll Call
Elsie talked about seeds she wants to order this spring. She is interested in tomatoes and sunflowers. She asked the members what their garden plans are for the spring. Elaine said they were going to do something different to prevent weeds using cardboard and straw. Janet has garden boxes for flowers or vegetables. Georgie wants perennial greens but the bugs really love kale. We talked about what causes garden failures. Connie is going to try yellow potatoes. Last years’ crop of red potatoes didn’t produce much.
Minutes
The November 1, 2022 minutes were read and approved. We also discussed giving Connie money for ink for producing club booklets.
Treasurer’s Report
Connie reported that we sent a donation to Sylvan-Lucas Jr./Sr. High and to Lincoln for after prom parties. Elaine made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report as read. Elsie seconded. The motion passed.
Correspondence
A Thank you was received from the Friends of the Lincoln Library for our donation.
Elaine made a motion to make a donation for 2023. Elsie seconded. The motion passed.
New Business
This year, 2023, Denmark Dames Service Club will be 75 years old. Georgie suggested we put an article in the newspaper to mark the event. Lillian Heinze had much of the Dames documents. Goergie asked Elsie and Connie to write down the names of members they remember. Dues were collected.
Old Business
There is no new business. We discussed our trip to Seelye Mansion in Abilene and dinner at Brookville. We thought the food was being prepared differently.
Georgie closed the meeting and the Dames retired around Elsie’s dining table for coffee and a delicious cheesecake she prepared, and cleverly served in a small glass jar. A perfect single serving
