Sylvan-Lucas cheer squad goes to camp

Sylvan-Lucas cheerleaders attended the Kansas Shrine Bowl Cheer July 12-15, 2023 in Hays. The 4-day camp was host to 201 young cheerleaders.

Coach December Gier said it was an amazing learning experience for the squad.

“These girls put ALL of their hard work, and dedication into this week with late nights, early mornings, 10 different cheers, one full dance routine, a lot of walking, team meetings, intense training, stunting training, and pretty tasty food!” Gier said. “These seven girls learned all their cheers and dance routine within three days and performed the routine at the Kansas Shrine Bowl Pep Rally. Later that day they performed all 10 cheers and their dance routine again at the Kansas Shrine Bowl All-Star Football game!”

The squad represented the Sylvan-Lucas Unified Schools with pride and was competitive with larger teams, demonstrating the size of the school has little to do with the talents of its students.

“I am so grateful for this squad,” Gier said. “Not only are they diligent and try hard to listen and tune in to what they need to, but they also have such spirit!

As in all we do, it takes a village to raise our children.

The squad is thankful to the community for helping with donations, support, purchasing our cookie dough sales and in many other ways! The girls could not have gone to this cheer camp or purchased new apparel without the community’s generosity.
