Relief is on the way

Like most summers, a certain portion of the population is in their element. Baking themselves in the sun is not only a pleasant but an enjoyable pastime. In the winter months they are convinced they are going to freeze to death with water at 32-degrees and long for those 90-degree days.

Like most summers, a certain portion of the population is in their element. Baking themselves in the sun is not only a pleasant but an enjoyable pastime. In the winter months they are convinced they are going to freeze to death with water at 32-degrees and long for those 90-degree days.

On the other hand, another portion of the population despises summer. They don’t mind a little suntan or water games, but given a choice, they would choose cooler weather. These are the people who take the trash out barefoot in the snow. The ones who never button their coat or wear gloves.

Both groups have their reasons for preferring one season over another, but another portion of the general population prefers milder weather overall.

The average annual high temperature in Lincoln is 66-degrees. The average low is 41-degrees. Sounds nice, doesn’t it? That most assuredly falls under the “milder weather” category. We take advantage of those averages when attracting people to our area. What we don’t tell them is some years it seems like it’s either -10-degrees or 110-degrees with nothing in between.

Being average human beings, we are never totally satisfied, but even those of us born and raised on the prairie are ready for temperatures to begin falling.

September 22 is the first day of fall. Average temperatures will range from highs of 81-degrees to 54-degrees and lows ranging from 55-degrees to 29-degrees. We won’t feel the relief right away, but it’s coming, and it’s within sight.

Brace yourself for cooler weather as soon as next week! That might be a small exaggeration. A little “cold” front will move into the area after we hit a high of 96 on Tuesday, bringing a cool 88-degrees on Wednesday the 6th. Thursday is expected to bring a high of 94 followed by cooling temperatures through Tuesday, the 12th.

It’s still not “sweater weather” but there is some relief in sight, and it’s almost fall, y’all!
