Prepare Today to Combat Lameness this Grazing Season
Dry conditions that the central and southern plains have been experiencing may lead to increased foot issues. Several issues could be the culprit of cattle lameness, and we will review some of the common causes including the key differences between clinical signs. It is a good idea to contact your local veterinarian to create a treatment plan for these conditions prior to the grazing season.

Delma (Feldkamp) Long July 5, 1932 - May 16, 2023
Delma (Feldkamp) Long, 90, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Oakview in Minneapolis, KS. She was born July 5, 1932 in Lincoln, KS to Barney and Ella (Liepitz) Feldkamp. Delma graduated from Vesper High School in the class of 1950. She married Bill Long in Vesper, KS on Easter Sunday, April 21, 1957. Residing for many years in Lincoln, Bill and Delma had two daughters, Kathy and Terrie. Over the years, Delma was a sales clerk at Duckwalls and worked at Saline Valley Bank, Evans Grain in Salina, and Crispin Pharmacy in Lincoln.

Obermueller awarded basketball scholarship
Avery Obermueller is the 2023 recipient of the (Joe) Ortiz Basketball Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded each year to an LHS senior who has been a contributing member of the Lady Leopards basketball team. When selecting the recipient, Ortiz takes into consideration academic status and extra-curricular involvement in addition to the level of participation in the basketball program.

Track-A-Thon, major donors push track effort past halfway point
Local banks, Lions Club among major donors The May 6 th Track-A-Thon at Mettner Field was a resounding success, not just according to organizers, but the numerous participants in attendance, and not just because the event generated nearly $20,000 once the proceeds were tallied, but because it generated interest in the track renovation effort in the form of a well-attended community event, an event many think should be held annually.

Vesper Community Center to host Memorial Day Meal On May 29th
The Vesper Community Center volunteers will be hosting the annual Memorial Day Luncheon in Vesper on Monday, May 29th from 11:30am to 2:00pm. The public is invited to visit the community center and enjoy a meal during the day while visiting memorials around the county. The interior of the community center recently was updated with new paint and trim and has a new updated look for the event.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 2023 KSU/Post Rock Extension District Wheat Plot Tours, Wednesday, May 31, to view over 25 varieties in each of the wheat plots with two stops according to Sandra L. Wick, Post Rock District Crop Production Agent. Unfortunately, like all producers, the wheat crop has had many challenging things this year, so it just is looking pretty rough and very thin and short.
